Big Data & Analytics
The last few years have seen a tremendous explosion on the availability of data, as well as key advances in storage and analytics that allow for cost-effective safe-keeping and analysis of data.
This is particularly true for web properties - where user behavior can be tracked with great detail - and several other industries such as Bio and Pharma.
Capturing, processing, storing, and querying this new found wealth of data uses techniques that can significantly depart from the traditional Busienss Intelligence RDBMS and query tools. Be it unstructured data that does not fit into a nice normalized model, or storage engines that are optimized differently for more effective retrieval, to the type of analyses that are performed; including up to machine learning algorithms that may extract for exmaple user preferences from an historical stream of activity.
